Charlie Barlow: ZWITSCHERTAUBE
07/11, 2025

About
This painting by Norwich-based artist Charlie Barlow was inspired by the artist’s observations of pigeons at the Kabinett in Crystal Palace, London, and how birds navigate and adapt to changing infrastructure.
Despite disruptions to their habitats, they persist in reclaiming and colonising spaces, demonstrating resilience within urban environments.
Now on view at Zwitscherkabinett at Zwitschermaschine in Berlin , the artwork speaks both to transformation as well as to the story of its host: in German, Zwitschermaschine means tweeting machine and references a 1922 watercolour painting by Paul Klee depicting a loosely sketched group of birds on a wire branch connected to a hand-crank.
