About
Oscar Shepherd is a South London-based artist whose work conveys the experience of what it is to grow up adjacent to the pervasive financialisation of London, whose micro and macro effects have social, political, and cultural ramifications on younger generations currently coming of age.
As gentrification of the city – particularly south of the river – increases, financial institutions gain greater influence on the city’s social order. One of the ways in which artists subvert this swelling of top-down development is through street art.
Shepherd’s longtime interested in graffiti, sculpture, and photography has inspired a multimedia installation that is informed by his societal concerns about the rapidly evolving London landscape.
As a ground-up initiative, the Kabinett’s mission to foster street artists comes from a devotion to combat the exploitation of the public and provide a platform for local communities to reclaim the development of their own cultural field.
