the other kabinett

Until recently, the Camberwell Kabinett had a sister structure directly across the street.
Since the kiosk’s original purpose was to operate as a bus inspectors’ shelter, the second Kabinett was used for southbound traffic, and the larger Kabinett for northbound.
In 2022, the structure was removed. The structure that was removed had weathered significantly, and was in a visibly more derelict state than its counterpart.
Built in a similarly brutalist style, the other Kabinett had a different size, shape, and hardware.
In its place is a light-coloured square of concrete showing its phantom footprint. Like the Camberwell Kabinett, a de facto public art space has emerged in its wake in the form of an unofficial graffiti wall for local street artists.
