The Kabinett had accumulated a collection of newspapers, the most recent ones dated August 8th, 2024. The initial excavation commenced on August 20th and lasted until August 22nd.
The wooden floor had completely rotted through, exposing a waterlogged and half rotten layer of styrofoam. Beneath the styrofoam was a final layer of thick black plastic tarp, which was removed to reveal the original concrete foundation below.
The interior walls and ceiling were cleaned and painted white. Two side grates were removed to clean graffiti left on the glass. The door was painted its original red and the lock was replaced.
The exterior fibreglass shell, which had also originally been red, had been repainted grey several times over its 70+ year lifespan.
