About
When we enter a new year, what do we have to evidence
Our days, whether violent or benign, must be put aside for the daily chores of existence. To live one must continually forget.
Livonia Okello guides us across the chasm that is this eventful, frenetic, and often stressful time of year.
Perhaps this is why change is easiest to mark with the material. One can recall a year by purchases: bags, toys, clothes and come the holiday season gifts. Static is an attempt to consider the effects of change by creating an environment that focuses entirely on the individual, allowing them the opportunity to meditate and meditate in a considered space. With only a mirror and a sound machine, that will attempt to mimic silence, Static invites the audience to forgo any material markers for a moment of introspection.
This exhibition is not a reprimand on consumption. Pleasures are welcomed when times are hard. Static simply offers a respite in a bus kiosk for those who want it.
Static was inspired by snow globes, Coca Cola adverts and existentialism.
